Empowering Refugees in Kakuma with Generation Aid

Summary

Over 252,066 refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp face limited access to education and employment opportunities, leaving them trapped in cycles of poverty and dependency. We aim to transform lives by providing vocational training, digital skills, and entrepreneurship programs that create pathways to education, employment, and self-reliance. With your support, we can equip refugees with the tools they need to integrate into the global economy and build a brighter future for themselves

Challenge

Kakuma refugee camp is home to thousands of refugees who have fled conflict, persecution, and poverty. Despite their resilience, they face immense barriers to education and employment. Empowering Refugee Artists

Imagine a world where refugee artists have a platform to share their survival stories where their resilience, creativity, and courage can be seen and heard. In times of humanitarian crises, art becomes more than expression it becomes a voice, a bridge to understanding, and a beacon of hope.

In Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, countless artists have turned their pain into powerful stories, but they lack the space to showcase their talent.

Creating the dedicated Community Art Gallery and creative hub in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. For the community development.

Many artists in Kakuma have endured profound trauma. Our art workshops provide a therapeutic outlet, helping them process experiences and express hope. The gallery will serve as a safe haven and a community space where artists can gather, create, and feel a sense of belonging.

This initiative offers a platform for refugee artists to share their stories through art, creating a space where resilience, courage, and creativity thrive. The money raised will enable more art materials sent from Nairobi to the camp, and also equip each artist with an Art-pack of materials to take home with them after the workshop so that they can continue drawing and painting and eventually start selling their art online.

It’s incredibly hard to get regular meals as a refugee and any extra our artists can make by offering their work online, work gives them autonomy and the ability to eat and feed friends and family.

Beyond the creative space, the gallery will welcome local schools and visiting dignitaries, fostering an understanding of refugee experiences and empowering these artists through visibility and support. This project is a chance to shine a light on their art and their stories, culminating in a 2025 Summer exhibition at The Vanner Gallery in Salisbury, UK. We are thrilled that amidst the refugee work, we will have some portraits of our refugees painted by talented Portrait Artist Alastair Barford.
